Analyse Your GTM Tags and Triggers
If you are looking for a tool to help you visualise your Google Tag Manager GTM Tags and Triggers how they interrelate and the associated events, then this is the tool for you!
The FREE GTM tool on this page uses your Tag Manager Container Export to establish:
Which Tags are in your GTM container
Which Triggers are in your GTM container
- Highlight how your Tags and Triggers are linked
Show events attached to Tags and Triggers
Selectively show paused GTM Tags
Export GTM Data to Excel Spreadsheet
Simply log in to your Google Tag Manager account and visit the Admin page. Click on Export Container, select the relevant container (if there is more than 1 listed, otherwise just choose Default), ensure all items are checked, and simply click Export.
You can then upload the exported JSON file (it will likely have a name something like GTM-N1KS4DB_workspace187 or similar).
Then using this tool you can:
- Click a Tag to see all associated Triggers.
- Click a Trigger to see all associated Tags.
- Select Show Paused Tags Only to show only the tags that are paused (eg. not running).
- Click Export to Excel to have all Tags and Triggers downloaded in Microsoft Excel format for you to perform you own analysis.
By checking that your GTM Tags and Triggers are correct, have the correct associations and the related events to each look correct, it can be the first step to ensuring your website events, goals and conversions are set up correctly.
Be sure to Submit any workspace changes and test your GTM Tags, Triggers and events using the GTM Preview button, and you can also use GA4 Analytics Real Time View or Debug View to check the data is flowing from Google Tag Manager correctly.
